This is a project by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which aims to reduce the fatalities by road traffic accidents and improve the capacity of the institutes related to road traffic safety in the Kingdom of Thailand.

The project was launched in December 2020 and will conclude in June 2024. The Ministry of Transportation (MOT), Thailand set ten years long action plan to step- down road accidents, this project is in line with the agenda of that action plan. Japan has the reputation of bringing the traffic accident fatalities to half in nine years (since 1970).

In this project, the Japan expert team will utilize their expertise and cooperate with the Thai traffic safety related institutes to achieve the goal of decreasing the road traffic accident for a better future.

Who we are:

Project Background.

The MOT has formulated the "Master Plan for Road Accident Reduction for 10 years (2019-2027)" and its Action Plan with the goal of reducing the number of fatalities in traffic accidents.

The Department of Highways (DOH) and the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) are taking measures against traffic accidents by extracting accident black spots, and the Department of Land Transport (DLT) is improving the driver licensing system and operation management. However, the number of traffic accidents has not decreased.

Under these circumstances, MOT carried out traffic safety working group with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Truism of Japan (MLIT) and necessity of systematic measures against traffic accidents was recognized.

MOT have established the Traffic Safety Operation Center (TSOC) and developed the New Transport Road Accident Management System (New-TRAMS).

The Project is to support the countermeasures against traffic accidents that Thai organizations concerned are working on as mentioned above, and to consolidate the organization of TSOC.
